Miami Woman’s Arrest for Allegedly Selling Unlicensed Weight-Loss Drugs Sparks Conversation about What to Do if You are Charged with a Drug Crime in Miami

PrescriptionDrug

A Miami-Dade woman was arrested for allegedly selling unlicensed prescription weight-loss drugs, and members of the community are wondering what options for justice criminal defendants who have been charged with serious drug crimes have under Florida criminal laws. According to local news reports, Yanelys Fundora Acebo, a 44-year-old Miami-Dade woman, was arrested on Tuesday of this week for allegedly selling the weight-loss drugs from her beauty business. Acebo was the subject of an undercover investigation which allegedly revealed that the beauty business owner was selling phentermine, which is a controlled substance. Acebo was reported to have allegedly been selling the unlicensed prescription weight-loss drug in the form of lollipops from X Lash by Yane, which is located in Pinecrest.

In addition to allegedly selling the weight-loss drugs at her place of business, investigators believe that Acebo was also advertising other weight-loss drugs not legal for sale online. The investigators looking into the alleged weight-loss drugs “determined that Acebo is not licensed to prescribe or dispense medications.” Acebo now faces several criminal charges against her, including practicing health care without a license, dispensing drugs without a license and possession with intent to sell a controlled substance. These are serious felony charges under Florida criminal laws. The case is ongoing and it remains to be seen if Acebo will be convicted of the charges against her, or if she will be acquitted in her case.

Miami Drug Defendants Have Rights Under Florida Criminal Laws

In light of the news about the serious felony charges that Yanelys Fundora Acebo now faces for allegedly selling weight-loss drugs unlawfully and illegally, it is important for Miami residents and individuals to know their rights when it comes to criminal drug charges in Miami. When a person is charged with serious drug crimes in Miami, they have the opportunity to fight the case in court and get justice in the case against them. The State of Florida must prove “beyond a reasonable doubt” that the criminal drug defendant is guilty of the elements of the charges against them, in order for them to be convicted.
