Miami Police Lieutenant’s Domestic Violence Arrest Shows Even Cops Can be Charged with Serious, Violent Crimes – What You Can Do if You are Arrest for DV in Miami

With the 2024 Christmas holiday just around the corner, some Miami residents were shocked to hear the news that one of the men in blue that they depend on for safety and protection was arrested for harming a member of his own family. According to local news reports, Miami Police lieutenant Thomas Carroll, a 47-year-old member of the Miami Police force, was arrested on Sunday morning, December 22. Reports indicate that Carroll’s wife called Miami police the night before his arrest, on Saturday December 21, at around 7:30 p.m. In the call, Carroll’s wife reported that she had been arguing with the lieutenant police officer, when he “intentionally spit on the victim 10 times” and “slapped the victim two times in the face.” Caroll’s wife indicated that she had run out of the house to escape further violence and that is when she was able to call the police. Detectives investigating the terrible domestic violence incident reported that two witnesses provided sworn statements that confirm Carroll’s wife’s version of the events. Carroll was relieved of police duty after his arrest, pending further investigation into the alleged domestic violence incident with his wife. He was given a $1,000 bond and was expected to be released from jail the same day that he was taken into custody. In light of the domestic violence incident allegedly perpetrated by one of their own, Miami Police Chief Armando R. Aguilar stated, “When acts of domestic violence are perpetrated by law enforcement officers, they are especially disheartening, as they represent a breach of the sacred trust placed in us by the people we serve.”
