A Miami woman is now facing criminal charges after an incident involving her 5-year-old daughter earlier this week. According to local news reports, Valerie Victoria Vicente, a 33-year-old woman from the Miami-Dade area, was charged with child neglect without the element of great bodily harm after she allegedly left her 5-year-old daughter alone and abandoned in her parked vehicle. Arrest reports indicate that a witness to the incident involving the young child and her mother called the Miami Dade Police emergency line at around 2:00 a.m. in the morning on Monday, December 16. The report indicated that a child was screaming for help inside of a car in the area of 1601 NE 19th Street in Miami. Miami-Dade police officers that responded to the incident found the witness and the young 5-year-old child in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The young girl indicated to police officers that she and her mother had gone to a bonfire, and she had fallen asleep in her mother’s BMW on the way home. The young girl woke up and was “scared and hungry,” and she, accordingly, began to scream for help. Vicente, on the other hand, was reported to have been located by Miami-Dade police after the young girl told them which apartment she and her mother lived in. When police officers found Vicente, she was reported to be “sound asleep, was not dressed, disoriented and seemed to be intoxicated.” Reports further indicate that Vicente was not cooperative with police and she requested to speak to a lawyer, as is her legal right under Miami criminal laws. Vicente was taken into custody, charged, and is now being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. No bond has been set yet in the case.
